This spring a new generation of outdoor grills is filling the aisles of home improvement centers, patio furniture outlets and department store retailers. High-end features and powerful performance rule the day. Here’s just a taste of the gas grills.
NEXT STEP
this spring to see
the new generation
of outdoor grills
and accessories.
STAND-ALONE MODELS. If you haven’t shopped for a new
grill lately, the first thing that will
impress you is the sheer size, number
of features and expense of the new
stand-alone units. KitchenAid®, for
example, is promoting a new 48-inch
freestanding model with electric
warming drawer, hot surface ignition,
three main burners, an infrared
sear burner, double side burner,
rotisserie with double infrared
burners for slow roasting and
smoker box for a manufacturersuggested
retail price (MSRP) of
$4,999. Go to kitchenaid.com.
BUILT-INS FOR LUXURY. The top-of-the-line Epicure®
Outdoor Grill from Dacor® is even
bigger, measuring 52 inches. It can
be freestanding, like the KitchenAid
unit, but a grill this big is probably
better built into the countertop of an
outdoor kitchen. Versions are
available with stainless-steel burners
or an optional sear burner.
Halogen lighting illuminates the
cooking surface for after-dark grilling.
MSRP—Grill: $4,370; Cart: $2,723. See
more at dacor.com.
GRILLING ACCESSORIES. While the most popular Father’s
Day grilling gifts may still be tongs,
forks and brushes, serious grillers
can choose from more elaborate
accessories. High-end grills often
include these as standard, but if
not, consider separate purchases
of a rotisserie, roast and vegetable
racks, smoker attachment, rib rack,
griddle and grill basket. And don’t
forget a meat thermometer, grill
light and grill cover.
