Fall and winter’s short days and long, dark nights could use a little brightening up—so add a festive sparkle to your yard with outdoor lighting that can stay up past the holidays. Avoid holiday-themed lighting and you can enjoy the extra twinkle in your trees until spring shows up. Here are some ideas:
NEXT STEP
Use rope lights on the ground, lining walkways and paths. This creates a runway look and, when covered with a soft dusting of snow, adds a dreamy glow to your landscape.
Hang lighted globes in leafless deciduous trees to add orbs of white light to your yard.
Wrap the trunks of deciduous trees in twinkle lights. You don’t need to do the entire tree, just part of the trunk to create a luminous look. Multiply the light by wrapping multiple trees.
Pot up live evergreen trees (such as spruce or boxwood) and decorate with white lights.
Install spotlights to shine on trees or other architectural objects, such as art, in your yard.
