TROPICAL PUNCH. Splash some calypso color into your yard with south-of-the-border beauties.

Tropicanna canna (Canna ‘Tropicanna’) unfurls brilliantly tinted leaves striped with pink, gold, greens and red. Look for its siblings with equally flamboyant foliage: ‘Tropicanna Gold’ (gold and green leaf) and ‘Tropicanna Black’ (purple-black leaf). USDA Zones 7–10; dig and store tubers in colder zones.

Bluestorm™ lily of the Nile (Agapanthus praecox orientalis ‘Bluestorm’) explodes floral fireworks. Drought-tolerant and fire-resistant, these plants thrive in containers or beds. For white blossoms try ‘Snowstorm™.’ USDA Zones 8–11; winter indoors in colder zones.

PERENNIAL FAVORITES. Fill your yard with comeback bloomers to grace your garden with gorgeous color year after year.

Volcano Ruby phlox (Phlox paniculata ‘Volcano Ruby’) packs a fragrant, flowery punch from June through September. Plants shrug off mildew with ease. Look for Volcano phlox in white, purple, pink and red. USDA Zones 4–10.

ColorFlash astilbe (Astilbe x arendsii ‘Beauty of Ernst’) brightens shady corners with green leaves that fade to burgundy and purple. Fall foliage features orange and russet tones. Flower spikes soar above leaves in spring, lasting into early summer. Plant ‘ColorFlash Lime’ for a chartreuse splash. USDA Zones 4–8.

ANNUAL DELIGHTS. Savor season-long color from annuals that offer real eye appeal.
